Case Study 5
Response to the Mental Health Year in Review 2008.
I was really intrigued by the different accomplishments in anti-depression medicine or the lack there of. It was interesting to find out that the FDA approved medication for consumer use even when there was little testing done with the medication beforehand. Why the FDA believed this would be okay, is beyond me. It is positive to hear that they have made up for the lack of testing in the past with testing this past year. It is even more positive to hear that the testing has shown positive results. The results being that the medicine is actually better than the placebo even if the results are not what was marketed before. I also think the effort they have make with genetic make up and disorders is a good start, but that they definitely need to continue with this area of research.

Wow, the fact that the FDA does little testing kind of scares me due to the possible side effects of the meds. Oh well. Good job =)

Yeah, that is really disturbing stuff. And it's not just anti-depressants; there was that arthritis medication a year or two before that people found out increases the risk of heart attack which the FDA had to pull of the market. Then in the news I recently heard that the FDA has detected traces of a toxic chemical in American baby formula (the same stuff that is wrecking havoc in China's food supply right now) after the stuff has been circulating to consumers for a while. A lot of people think that the FDA needs reform, and I agree with them.
It's scary to know the FDA does this kind of testing. Good summary.
Ohh thats very interesting!!!
It's ridiculous to see how the FDA can let something like this slide, but it's also relieving to see the steps that they are taking to resolve this matter. Overall, great and interesting post.
Wow i did not know that the FDA does this for research.
